Materials:  Two (2) Composition notebooks (one for each semester)

Wish List: Paper Towels, Clorox wipes, Baby wipes, Disposable gloves, Hand sanitizer, old newspapers

 Course Description:

The curriculum for 6th grade focuses on Earth Science.  We will be using two hands-on science modules that cover the objectives outlined in the Alabama Course of Study – Science. The first semester will be Earth in Space and Catastrophic Events the second semester.   The lessons and labs in the modules are inquiry-based, which allows students to develop critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities.

  Science Rules:

Students and parents must read, sign, and return the Safety Contract along with the notebook contract. Lab tickets that need a parent signature will be given for misbehaving during labs.

 Grading Policy:

1.       Major tests count 40% of the final grade.

2.       Notebooks (class activities, notes, labs, vocabulary) count 60% of the final grade.

3.       DO NOW activities and Homework will count as a weekly class work grade.

The Science notebook serves in part as a textbook during the year due to the amount of information recorded. It is very important for students to keep an organized and updated notebook. The Table of Contents for the notebook will always be available in the classroom.

Make up work:  If a student is absent from class/school for the day it is their responsibility to obtain and complete any missed assignments.  A student has five days to complete make up work, but must keep in mind that during that period of time we are still moving forward with new material so it is best to try and complete make up work as soon as possible to avoid falling behind in class.

Orange Team Rules:

1.       Follow directions immediately.

2.       Work during all work times

3.       Arrive with all materials.

4.       Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

Orange Team Consequences:

Strike 1-Verbal warning/student conference

Strike 2-Think Sheet/Silent lunch

Strike 3-Parent contact (note, phone call, email)

Strike 4-After-school detention with a team teacher

Strike 5-Referral to counselor and/or administration
